What a busy day! We left the village of Whissendine and headed to the town of Oakham. Our first stop was Tesco superstore. We put on our special farm to fork tabards and set off on a treasure hunt into the store, hunting for different fruits and vegetables for our shopping baskets. Then we looked at all the different types of sugar and found different foods that did and didn't contain sugar. After that we headed back to our secret room at the back of the store for a well earned healthy snack of tzatziki, carrots, cucumber, pittas and ryvitas. It went down very well! Our last activity of the morning was to make our own muesli for breakfast with oats, flakes, dried apples, raisins and sesame seeds. Do let us know if yours was delicious!
Next stop Oakham Castle! We walked through the town to the castle and headed in through the huge gates. We had already spotted horseshoes on the gates, just like the ones on our uniforms. Inside we were amazed by how many horseshoes there were on the walls, 232 in total, all different shapes and sizes. After a quick stop for lunch we headed outside to find out about the moat and drawbridge before heading back inside for a puppet show all about the Rutland horseshoes. Some had gone missing and we had to help the minstrel find them. To celebrate finding them we had a banquet, making icing decorations and gingerbread before dressing up and sitting down for a banquet, complete with jokes! What a super day, thank you so much to our parent helpers and minibus drivers, we couldn't do it without you!
