Welcome to

Whissendine CE Primary School

Term 2

Term 2

Welcome back to another busy term in Class 3 and this term it's ... All About Me!!  Well, actually it's all about us, but we love that title!! This  term we are focusing on ourselves and our local area.

In literacy we are learning about autobiographies.  We are starting by looking at the information they contain (key moments and important facts - nobody wants to know what we ate for breakfast - boring!), we are seeing the ways that this information can be put across (written, blog, PowerPoint) depending upon the intended audience, we are looking at Red Riding Hood's autobiography and then will have a go at writing our own.

In Geography we are focusing on the local area.  We will be looking at Whissendine and what it contains before comparing it to Oakham (while we are there we are even going to stop in at WildWood Kitchen and have pizza - we have to cook it ourselves of course!)

In ICT we are going to become opinion pollsters.  We haven't yet named our class village and so we need to gather some suggestions for names before surveying the class, gathering and recording the results and then deciding on the what it should be called.

Speaking of the village, if we are learning all about the 'real' us and where we live, we could transfer this to the 'village' us as this term we will be establishing our class village characters.  I wonder if anything exciting will happen?  I wonder who will be the police person? The teacher? The vicar?

In art we are going to be doing some sculpture and in this year of remembrance, we will also be learning about World War 1 and how Queen Victoria's grandchildren started the whole thing off!  We will be visiting the museum in Oakham to learn about those from the local area who fought in the Great War and scattering poppy seeds beside Clover the Cow to show that Whissendine school will never forget their sacrifice. Add to the mix maths and (dare I say?) Christmas and as always, we have a busy term ahead of us.
