We are celebrating Chinese New Year this week!
Take a look below to see what we get up to!
Mrs Tatham came to school to show us how to write numbers 1 - 5 in Chinese! We also learnt how to say them too! Check out the video below! It was very tricky to reproduce the shapes on our paper but we were very resilient, focused really hard and the results were quite amazing!
When we had finished Mrs Tatham also told us about the Chinese New Year Red Envelope being one of the favourite Chinese traditions for children. On New Years Day they are given a shiny envelope with money in! Red represents good fortune and is a lucky colour. Mrs Tatham then gave each child a red envelope with a very special coin in! What a special treat and such a surprise! We said a big thank you in Chinese ..... xie xie (syeh-syeh).
Extreme resilience today eating with chop sticks. Many different techniques were displayed (ALL of which allowed the food to get into the mouth).
Great cutting skills shown making masks for our own dragon dance .....
First we tried walking in house teams as a dragon, twisting and turning and making sure we didn't bump into any other dragons! We then put on our masks and used drums as we paraded around. Finally we were covered in special material to make the body of four dragons and created our own dance to the music!
