Friends of Stapleford Miniature Railway

What a treat! We are so very lucky to have been invited by the Friends of Stapleford Miniature Railway to come and spend the morning finding out about railways and trains and also taking a trip on the amazing 10 ¼ inch gauge miniature railway (a route of nearly two miles).

We saw a diesel engine and steam engine and found out how a steam engine works.  Mr Nigel Spencer told us briefly about how and why the railways started and we discovered how easy it is to push a 10 ton truck!

We went into the signal box and also saw the points change.

On the very scenic route we spotted many ducks with ducklings, geese, swans and signets and also herons!

As another special treat, we had a picnic lunch followed by a game of ‘rabbit, rabbit, fox’ before coming home.  What a brilliant morning!

The Stapleford Miniature Rail has a Models and Miniatures weekend coming up on 11th and 12th June – entrance is free and there is a small charge for the ride on the train – we thoroughly recommend you go and see it for yourself!

There is also a three day Open Weekend Steam Rally for August Bank Holiday weekend – 27th , 28th , 29th August.
