World Book Day Competition

22nd February - Chance to Share Day AND Maths Days

What a busy day!  As well as inviting our parents in to see our learning, we have today, taken part in a Maths Day.  Each class chose a Roald Dahl book and carried out maths work based around their book.  What a fantastic day!

Funky Glasses Day - 11th February 2022

Whissendine do it again!

The children spent some time creating funky glasses and then, for a small donation to charity, wore them (along with their home clothes) to school on Funky Glasses Day!

After a final count we were SO proud to announce that, Whissendine Primary School made a donation of...

Drum roll please...

More than £220 to the Children's Eye Cancer Trust!

You are AMAZING!

Safer Internet Quiz

January 2022 - Although many of our Trust events have been put on hold for a while, KS2 are looking forward to battling it out, albeit virtually, against the other schools on 8th February when we take part in a quiz as part of Safer Internet Day.

The questions will all be based around the theme of staying safe on line.  Come on Whissendine, you've got this!

RLT Maths Challenge

26th November - Earlier this month, the children in Year 5 and Year 6 took part in the RLT Maths Challenge.  There were 25 questions which started off relatively easy and got steadily harder and harder.  The papers were gather in from across the RLT schools and marked.  In Collective Worship today, each and every child received a certificate to celebrate their achievement in taking part.

We are incredibly proud of all of the children for taking part and our congratulations go out to them.  A particular 'WELL DONE' goes to Maya Glassford in Y6 who achieved the highest score across the whole trust!  Well done Maya.

Cake Raffle

19th November - It's back!  We were so glad to welcome back the very popular Friends Association Cake Raffle this morning.  The queue to purchase the lucky ticket stretched out of the door! £113 was raised and, as this coincided with our Children in Need fundraiser, the Friends donated half of the money raised to add to the pot!

Spelling Bee

8th October - The results are in!  The RLT Spelling Bee finalists fought hard, many of the rounds coming down to a play off, but Whissendine came out as overall winner in Y2!  Congratulations to all who took part - you were AMAZING!

Monday 27th September – Hot off the Press!

Children from across the school have, today, taken part in the Rutland Learning Trust spelling bee.  After a hard fought knock out competition, each class was able to put forward a representative to take on others, of their age, from across the trust.

Connections were made and screens sizzled with tension as today’s semi final was held via Teams.  Congratulations to all who took part and good luck to Noah Compton (Y1), Bethany Price (Y2), Harry Lee (Y3) and Gabriel Staples (Y4) who will be representing our school in the final.

Young Artists’ Summer Show’

I am excited to announce that a new National art competition has been launched last month by the Royal Academy of Arts and we, at Whissendine, would love to share with you this fantastic opportunity for your children!

This competition is for children aged 5 to 19 years old and asks them to produce a piece of artwork (this can be in any medium they choose: painting, sketching, collage, sculpture etc.) and submit it to their teacher. I will then photograph their work and upload it to their secure website for submissions, where a panel of current artists and art experts review the piece, then choosing a selection from all the entries. The chosen pieces are then displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts, in London, and hosted on their website for all to see and share! The closing date for entries is Friday 24th April 2020.

In order for me to submit your child's work for consideration, I will first need a permission form filling out that says you are happy for your child's work and their first name, if chosen, to be displayed publicly online and through social media, and in the gallery itself. It also says that you accept that they may use the image of the artwork to advertise the Young Artists' Summer Show. These forms can be found below. Please send them with the children’s entries to their class teacher, who will then pass them on to me.

I am sure you will agree this is a very exciting opportunity for our artists. If you have any queries, please speak to your class teachers or send me a message via Dojo.

Yours sincerely,

Oliver Gaunt
