Stapleford Park Steam Railway
Today we were so very lucky to be invited for an exclusive visit by the Friends of Stapleford Miniature Railway (FSMR). Mr Nigel Spencer was on hand to tell us all about how The White Heron (diesel engine) and The Hampton Court (steam engine) worked and we also had a turn at sitting in the driver's seats! Miss Barker had first hand experience of how it is so much easier to pull a truck full of gravel weighing the same as two cars on rails (check out the photos!) We had three trips on the 1/5th scale model of the Nickel Plate rd Berkshire around the two mile scenic route through the grounds of Stapleford Park, passed a lake (where we saw herons and swans with cygnets) over two bridges and through a very dark tunnel! A brilliant time was had by all.
Friends of Stapleford have a Models and Miniatures Weekend on 10th and 11th June when you will be able to take a trip on the amazing 10 1/4 inch gauge miniature railway. Entrance is free and there is a small charge for the ride on the train. They also have the Stapleford Miniature Railway Open Weekend on August Bank Holiday weekend 26th - 28th August. Scroll down for posters with details for both events. We thoroughly recommend you go along yourselves!
