Welcome to

Whissendine CE Primary School

Term 1

Welcome to our first term together! I hope you all had a fantastic break and that you are as excited as I am about the start of our learning journey together in Class 4.

Our Topic is Anglo Saxons and Vikings , which is really exciting and provides plenty of learning opportunities across the curriculum. We are kicking off with an amazing day courtesy of ‘The Specialists’ in our second week back on the 6th September. I won’t say anymore at this point! In History, we will get an opportunity to explore and investigate culture, people, religion and so much more.  ‘Living things’ will be our Science focus.  In Art, we will be sketching Saxon brooches in preparation for creating amazing 3D clay models as our final objective.
Class 4 learning for Term 1 also includes:
Literacy –  Our unit this term is ‘Stories set in an historical setting’. In line with our Topic, the children will be writing setting and character descriptions from the Viking era.

Computing – WIKIs! Class 4 will be creating their very own WIKI to showcase what they are learning about life in Anglo Saxon and Viking times.

Maths – Place value plays a key role and our target lesson will focus on addition and subtraction for this term. Of course, we will be completing our ttrockstar minute challenges to help the speed up the recall of our times tables very Friday.

PE – Please remember your PE kit on a Monday (Gymnastics) and Thursday (Games).
L2l – It’s all about ‘Bucket Filling’! Please ask your child to tell you more.
This year, we are concentrating on becoming independent learners, focussing on readiness for learning in the first term. We will be awarding a rosette to the Independent Learner of the week.

We will keep you updated on our progress...

Mrs Young and all of the Class 4 team.
