A big welcome to Term 2!
We are pleased that the children have settled so well into school life and are very excited to begin our second term at school! The EYFS Prime Areas; Personal, Social and Emotional development, Physical development and Communication and Language remain the key context for our learning. We continue to assess the children’s sound knowledge and will soon be completing our first teaching cycle of Set 1 Sounds! Visualization of numbers forms the basis of our maths focus. We would like to invite you to an informal meeting to share the next steps in our phonic programme and show you ‘Early Essence’ our new secure online assessment tool that allows you to log in and view some of your child’s learning in class! These are planned for Thursday 13th and Friday 14th November at 2.45pm at school and a notice will be put up within our morning ‘settling in’ time for you to sign up for the time most convenient to you!
Our topic for the term is ‘Special Times’ and we have many of them ahead - we start with Guy Fawkes and the tradition of bonfire night and are walking to our village church for a morning of activities with Year 1 children to understand the meaning of Remembrance Day.
At the beginning of December we are going to Rutland Museum to explore Christmas past! Talking of Christmas, it will soon be upon us and each child will invite a ‘special person’ i.e. mum, dad, granny or uncle to join them at school for some one-to-one festive activities at school from 2.30 – 3.30pm on Monday 15th December. For a final treat we are off to Corby Cube to see Rod Campbell’s ‘Dear Santa’ at the end of term. More details to follow!!
This term we will be expressing ourselves through music, dance and drama and will soon begin to learn the songs for our Nativity performance (these will uploaded to our class page on the school website as we learn them if you wish to sing along at home). PE this term is on Monday and continues to be in the school hall with bare feet. We consider physical development crucial in optimising the children’s future learning potential so please have a pair of wellies in school together with an appropriate waterproof coat (hats and gloves as the weather gets colder are also a bonus!) so they can access our outdoor learning area at all times – the door is always open! NO SCARVES PLEASE.
Resilience is our learning behaviour focus for Term 2 - we shall be showing how we can stick at it – even when the going gets tough! (Come and see our 'oh the things you can do that are good for you' display board - a prompt to help the children to begin to understand how they can help themselves to become ready to learn).
What an exciting term ahead! Thank you for all your support!
