Term 5 Information

Term 5 – All creatures, great and small!

This term the children have chosen to investigate the animal kingdom and we begin by exploring creatures from local habitats - a spot of bird watching, examining the world of mini beasts and seeing what we can hatch ……  But we also want to investigate some of those bigger animals that live further afield. All these activities will encourage us to attempt writing for a variety of purposes such as instructions and lists.  Tallies, data collection and weighing/measuring all lend themselves nicely too - don‘t forget we still await the delivery of rocket seeds from the ISS!

We have a few treats in store such as a whole day at Forest School, a visit to Uppingham Theatre, a Habitats Day at Rutland Water and a trip to Belton House with other EYFS members of our Academy to look forward to – more details to follow.

Being resourceful is our behaviour focus this term, showing initiative and knowing what to do if we get stuck!

If we are very lucky the weather may warm up so if the temperatures start to rise, please make sure children have sunhats and that sun cream (the type you only apply once is handy!) has been applied in the morning before school.

Extra drinks bottles can be left in the snack basket to be available at any time.

PE will be outside sometimes this term so can children please have well-fitting plimsolls or trainers at all times in their lockers – thank you!

We will be providing a multitude of purposeful opportunities inside and out to allow the children to practise their targets (discussed at our Parents Consultation meetings) and show us their progress towards/into the Early Learning Goals.  We have put a Learning Characteristics sheet in your Learning Log so you can contribute any home observations of your child which will feed into our assessments – thank you!

Keep up the good work with the reading and sounds practice – we can really see a difference in school!
