Term 6 Africa Alive!

Africa Alive!

This term our topic is Africa Alive! We will begin the topic by exploring where Africa is on a map in relation to where we live in Rutland. We will then investigate the climate and wildlife before digging deep into African culture. We will learn all about African art, food, music and dance as well as learn how to speak in Swahili. Throughout the topic, we will be searching for similarities and differences between Africa and our own country and we will be exploring the contrast between life in rural Africa and life in urban Africa for a child our age.

In Phonics, we will learn how to apply our knowledge of the Set 1 and Set 2 sounds to reading and writing simple sentences.

In Mathematics, we will learn how to double and group quantities as well as recognise odd and even numbers.

At the end of term we will transform our classroom into a rural Kenyan village. The children will be able to go on safari, using the bikes to search for the 'Big 5,' and 'Ugly 5,' taste African food and join in with African dancing and singing.

We cannot wait
