Frozen/Christmas
This term we have been set the mission to travel to the North Pole to help Santa Claus get ready for Christmas. But where is the North Pole? We will work together to discover the frozen world of the Arctic, exploring the flora and fauna of the region and finding out about the indigenous people who live there. Together we will compare the Arctic to our own country, looking for similarities and differences, as well as discovering the science behind ice and snow. In Phonics, the children will continue to learn the speed sounds and how to apply these to read CVC words. In Mathematics, the children will learn how to recognise different representations of the numbers 1-5, as well as explore 2D shapes and their properties before learning all about positional language and how to use it accurately.
The key books we will be reading are:
The Snowball by Sue Hendra
Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers
The Emperor's Egg by Martin Jenkins
Poles Apart by Jeanne Willis
The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allen Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg
Ten Little Elves by Mike Brownlow & Simon Rickerty
The First Christmas from The Children's Bible
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
