Victorian school afternoon
Things were a little different in Class 1 this afternoon! When the bell rang all the children had to line up in two lines, boys and girls and curtsey or take off their caps when saying good afternoon to the teacher. The tables were all in rows and the children had to sit in silence , facing the teacher's desk at the front.
We had lessons in reading, writing and arithmetic, copying from the blackboard onto our slates with the chalk. Then it was time for drill and a story from the Bible. We were all ready to go outside for a break and played ring games like The Farmer's in his den and In and out the dusty bluebells.
The children have really enjoyed this topic and ask great questions about what it was like for children long ago. They are super history detectives!
