Welcome to

Whissendine CE Primary School

Welcome to Year 2

Term 1 is well underway now and we are READY for learning. We are trying hard to eat and drink healthily, to know our targets and how we can be successful and to make time for our friends.

Our topic begins in Whissendine and our local area and will soon lead to London too! We are considering what makes a village, a town and a city whilst learning about routes, symbols and keys. We have already been on mystery tours out and about looking at local landmarks and places of interest.

In Science our learning is focussed upon plants and animals in our locality and the children have chosen their areas of learning with some researching pondlife, others plant growth and others conditions for healthy plant growth.
The literacy unit is familiar stories and the children will all be planning and writing their own stories whilst aiming to meet their own personal targets.

Maths has begun with number, addition, subtraction and place value.
Our virtual classroom is already in use during lessons so do ask the children to show you at home and learn alongside them using the games and activities we are providing in our virtual school!
PE days are Mondays and Fridays and we are thrilled to have a specialist dance teacher supporting the children to create their very own dances based on our topic.

Class 2 have already impressed us with their drawing skills and we will be develping skills of line, shape and tone and creating our own landscapes and cityscapes too, along with music (taught by musician and teacher, James Barlow), ICT, Spanish and RE we have a jam packed and exciting term ahead!
